Here at FR Bumper Solutions, we always strive for complete transparency. We explain our work before we start, so you can have peace of mind and always be fully informed on the status of your vehicle. Denver drivers deserve to know exactly how their car is being repaired, so we’ve taken the liberty of explaining the difference between the bumper and fender dent repair processes.

BUMPER DENT REPAIR

Many people think that bumpers and fenders are the same part of the car. In actuality, the bumper is a plastic component that covers the front and back of your vehicle, while the fender is a metal structure that frames the wheel well. The majority of the repairs we perform are bumper repairs. The bumper is meant to reduce physical damage to the front and rear of your car and absorb shock from any impacts. When your bumper is damaged and its structural integrity is compromised, it puts you at increased risk for injury and extensive vehicle damage in any future collisions. That’s why it’s always imperative that you repair your bumper when damage occurs.

The first step to bumper repair is cleaning the damaged area and removing any debris or dust. We may need to detach the damaged panel in certain circumstances. We then treat the dent with a specialized heat tool until the dent starts to return to its original shape. Once we have re-formed the bumper, we will wait for the area to cool and apply a body filler if necessary. We then sand it down to create a smooth, untextured surface for the paint primer. Once the paint primer is applied and dried, we then use PPG paint to paint the area and seamlessly blend it into your original paint job. We then finish the job with a glossy, clear protective coat that will preserve the newly-applied paint.

FENDER DENT REPAIR

The fender is the metal structure that extends between your front door and your front bumper, providing necessary protection for your front wheels. If your fender has been damaged, you should have it repaired right away to ensure that you further damage your tires or car body while you’re on the road. During the repair process, we’ll begin by removing the paint from the dent. We then use a stud welder dent-pulling system to perform a hole-free dent repair that doesn’t weaken the panel and requires less filler than other methods. Using the welder, we create a pattern within the indentation which allows us to pull out the dent and reshape the fender into its original form. Once the studs are aligned, we use a slide hammer to pull the studs into the fender’s initial placement. We’ll then remove the studs, fill in the remaining area, and sand it down if necessary. We then prime, paint, and clear coat the area similarly to the bumper repair process.
